Quick facts
SLC 2% contains Salicylic acid which belongs to the group of medicines called keratolytic agent. It is used to treat and prevent acne outbreaks in patients having considerably oily skin. This medicine should be used as part of your daily cleansing routine for maximum results. Acne vulgaris is a common skin condition that occurs in teens when hair follicles of the skin plug with oil and dead skin cells. Symptoms includes inflammation, large, reddish pus-filled pimples, and formation of comedones.
Salicylic acid allows the epidermal cells to slough off and clears the clogged follicles of the skin, which reduces pimple formation. Along with the treatment, try to eat an oil-free diet and drink plenty of water. Go for mineral-based make up products as it may reduce your skin irritation. Make sure to remove your makeup before going to sleep.
Avoid touching or poking the pimples, as it may break the seal of the pore, causing the bacteria to spread into your skin causing inflammation, redness and sore spots. The most common side effects of this medicine are dryness and scaling. Contact your doctor if this bothers you. Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you recently had chickenpox or received varicella vaccine, because salicylic acid should be avoided in such patients at least for the period of 6 weeks as a precaution. This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking.
